This is Wout - A handsome chap and your typical - healthy looking Dutch baby. This is unfortunately not quite the case - Wout has cystic fibrosis which has a big impact on his life and that of his brave parents and their families. Treatments are available to help reduce the problems caused by the condition and make it easier to live with, but sadly life expectancy is shortened.
Treatments have been developing fast over the last few years. In the UK the NHS announced in January 2022 that hundreds of children are set to benefit from a ‘miracle’ treatment for cystic fibrosis, which already changed the lives of thousands of people.
There is nothing we can do apart from helping to speed up the development of these miracle treatments and hope that the Dutch healthcare system will follow the NHS's example. On Saturday I will join Wout's parents and other family and friends on a 200KM bike ride from the Amsterdam CF-centre to the Utrecht CF-centre to raise money to help speeding up finding a cure!
To help, you can join us on our ride - or donate on this page. If you'd like to support the UK CF trust please visit this page: https://www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk/
